Unlike traditional contacts, scleral lenses cover the entire cornea, resting securely on the sclera. At i2ioptometry, these custom-fit lenses offer optimal comfort and superior vision for various eye conditions.

Ensure healthy eyes with scleral lenses by following these steps:

  1. Hand Hygiene: Wash your hands thoroughly with a mild soap and dry them with a lint-free towel to avoid small fibers adhering to your lenses.
  2. Eye Inspection: Check for redness or secretions before inserting lenses. Any irritation or vision changes while wearing scleral lenses should prompt an appointment with our optometrist for an eye exam.
  3. Insertion Guidance: Our eye doctor will provide instructions for inserting scleral lenses. Use a flat mirror on the table, inspect the lens for debris, and fill it with saline.
  4. Insertion Technique: Using fingers or an inserter tool, stabilize the lens using the tripod method, placing it gently in your eye while looking downwards at the mirror.
  5. Adjustment: If discomfort arises due to air bubbles, gently remove and re-insert the lens.

Removal of Scleral Lenses

Learn the two methods:

  1. Plunger Use: Wet the plunger tip with saline, attach it to the lower part of the lens, gently press on the eye, and pull the lens out.
  2. Finger Method: Gently break the lens seal using two fingertips. Be prepared to catch the lens as it dislodges.

Proper Care of Scleral Lenses

After removal:

  1. Cleaning: Use contact lens solution and a Q-tip to clean the lenses, then rinse with saline before storing them in their case.
  2. Disinfection: Follow our eye doctor’s recommended disinfectant and ensure a fresh solution with each use to prevent bacterial contamination.

Case Maintenance: Rinse the case with a disinfecting solution, dry it, and store it upside-down with the caps off.
